It is glazed in a chocolate brown and is oval shaped with folded in sides and a simple wave pattern. Suiban means "water tray" and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that holds ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
