A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in adults with trichotillomania showed a significant 56% reduction in hair pulling with NAC, 1200 mg per day for 6 weeks followed by 2400 mg per day for another 6 weeks, compared with a 16% reduction in the placebo group, with improvements noticeable from 9 weeks
