This systematic review of data on disability-associated outcomes for all forms of schistosomiasis shows that the disease is significantly associated with anaemia, chronic pain, diarrhoea, exercise intolerance and undernutrition, suggesting that the disability burden previously assigned to schistosomiasis by the WHO is an underestimate and indicating a need to reassess priorities for treating this silent pandemic
