I had worked for a long time on the composition of this piece. I got the balance of the townhall and the church first. The line from the top of Church Street nicely carried the shops and roofs from the top to the bottom of the piece at B&M. I wanted to stack the roofs on top of each other as they went up the hill and this really created a lovely dizzy feel alongside the townhall. From there it was
