Description

Attributed in early catalogues to Van Dyck but catalogued in 1980 as After Cornelius Jonson the elder

There is also perhaps some resemblance to the physician Sir Edmund King (1629-1709)

Reynolds painted the portrait in 1757 and it was one of a series of six catalogued by Mannings and Postle

as well as the exact manner of her lying

as were the other Cartwright pictures

A Fishing Party Frame:gold Attributed in early catalogues to"A Fishing Party" is a conversation piece painted probably c. 1730 31. Murray recorded the remains of a signature, lower left centre, but these cannot now be found. Old photographs show the man on the left baiting the hook, but this was an alteration which has since been removed, presumably during cleaning in 1947 68. The line now ends at the float held by the mother.
